The Columbus Foundation’s Advisory Committee selects each program and initiative, each designed to meet the conservation and environmental needs of individuals, businesses and families in the community.

Investing In A Greener Columbus

The Green Fund is uniquely established to support green initiatives throughout Columbus Ohio. Columbus invests in a diverse scope of successful nonprofits, through methodic grant-making. Nonprofits are invited to explore competitive grant opportunities made possible by their donors.

Such funding opportunities include:

• Innovative operations of local organizations and specific fields
• Financial innovation with partnerships, acquisitions, mergers and social enterprise
• Capital improvements of nonprofit programs and services
• Various targeted needs regarding health, community improvement, conservation, youth development & more

Grants And Funding For Sustainability in Central Ohio

In partnership with The Columbus Foundation, the Green Funds provide a $5,000 stipend for a qualifying student to work with a central Ohio environmental or conservation nonprofit for 10 weeks during the summer of 2017. The Summer Fellowship Programcreates a bond between central Ohio nonprofits and student leaders interested in the nonprofit sector, positively impacting our community. Columbus has many programs in place to encourage and inspire sustainability. Resource Protection & Conservation

Columbusprotects and conserves natural resources throughout central Ohio by providing open space for wildlife and landscapes, advocating growth and protecting waterways. Science-based studies such as Sustaining Scioto are proactive components in areas of climate adaptation, pollution prevention, and forestry.

Transportation

The city has set multiple goals to reduce the impacts of vehicles on the environment through various green transportation means. Carpooling, walking, bike sharing and bike paths, and COTA bus services all contribute to cleaner air.

Together Columbus has taken the opportunities given to them to help protect their environment and grow as a community. Local boy Ryan Johansen took home MVP honors Sunday in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game. Johansen finished the annual showcase of talent with four points and two goals. Despite his team losing the game and other players having “better numbers,” the Columbus, OH faithful took to the polls to show their support for one of their own.

Columbus Needs A Hero

Columbus hockey fans have been searching desperately for their new savior since the departure of Rick Nash. This young Jackets squad has the skill to go far, but lacks definitive leadership. Is Johansen the man to take the reins? We certainly hope so. His numbers speak for themselves, but true leaders set the tone in every facet of the game. Everyone from upper management on down expects Johansen to be the complete player necessary to be called “Captain.”

Another Post Season?

At just over the halfway point, the Blue Jackets have a long way to go if they hope to be playing again in late May. Players like Johansen, Foligno and Bobrovsky need to prove they can produce for 82 games. The Eastern Conference is proving tough once again this season, and the road to the playoffs will not get any easier.
