The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has created some tips for Columbus households to be “Zero Waste.” This will increase the level of sustainability for all.
What does it mean to be “Zero Waste?”
Zero Waste means obtaining resources, using them, producing waste, and utilizing that waste to obtain more resources. One of the biggest ways to live sustainably is to follow the “urban metabolism method.” It is basically mimicking an ecosystem where everything is utilized so there is no waste. This can be done by being conscious consumers, recycling, composting and reusing everything possible.
Ways to be Zero Waste:
1. Reusable Shopping Bags -reduces paper and plastic waste, saves trees and water - Three R’s-reduce, reuse, recycle whenever possible
- Take the Initiative-create recycling and composting programs in your home and neighborhood
