What You’re Actually Throwing Away
It helps to think through your specific demo before you order. Here’s what typically comes out of a bathroom remodel.
Tile. Floor tile plus a shower or tub surround is a lot of weight in a small footprint. Porcelain and ceramic tile are dense; a 100-square-foot tile job can weigh 300 to 400 pounds before you add the mortar or backer board underneath.
Drywall and backer board. Standard drywall comes out in sheets, but wet areas often have cement board or Hardiebacker that adds weight. A full shower wall tear-out includes three or four walls of backer board plus any old waterproofing membrane.
Tub or shower unit. A fiberglass insert can usually come out in one piece if you’re lucky. Cast iron tubs are a different story; they’re extraordinarily heavy and need a call ahead. Cast iron is fine to put in a dumpster, but it significantly affects your weight allowance.
Vanity and toilet. These are bulky but not especially heavy. A 30-inch vanity with mirror fits easily in any of our sizes.
Flooring and underlayment. Vinyl flooring, subfloor sections, or hardwood transitions in adjacent areas add up quickly.
