CSA, Urban Gardens, and Other Green Resources in Columbus, Ohio.

Frog Hauling | April 21, 2011

If only 1% of the buying public (that’s all of us) were to buy local food, we would inject $34,000,000 into the local Columbus economy!

Hey Columbus! You want to feed your children the best? You want to reduce the pollution and toxins your children are going to ingest? You want to introduce your children to the system that produces the food that they eat? You want to be a part of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

How Does a CSA Work?

In a CSA, one or morelocal Columbus Ohio farms raise and tend a large garden or farm, raise chickens, and possibly even have goats, pigs, and cattle. Several times a week they portion the harvest from the farm and deliver the rich local goodness to your neighborhood. Some CSA’s will even deliver directly to your door. You pay by the season (quarterly) an amount usually between $200 to $400 dollars according to the size of the delivery. The average price per pound usually is lower than buying organic vegetables at the store.

Save money and time. No more time wasted weighing plastic baggies at the supermarket; you have your organics delivered to you from the family farmers themselves.

Be Carbon Neutral; Reduce Your Carbon Footprint.

Reduce the amount of fuel it takes to get the vegetables to you too almost nothing!

Support the education and continuation of the family farm.

Importantly, when you buy your family’s vegetables, eggs, chicken, and beef from a local farm you are supporting the people who are maintaining the values and the knowledge of raising animals and growing market sized gardens. These farms usually double as educational resource centers and are harbingers of the human knowledge database of gardening techniques, secrets, and methods.

Take your Family To Your Local Columbus CSA Farm

You and your family can visit the source of your food! Your children will love going to the farm and learning how food is grown. Some CSA’s even have discount prices for time spent working at the farm and other work trade solutions.
