Local boy Ryan Johansen took home MVP honors Sunday in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game. Johansen finished the annual showcase of talent with four points and two goals. Despite his team losing the game and other players having “better numbers,” the Columbus, OH faithful took to the polls to show their support for one of their own.
Columbus Needs A Hero
Columbus hockey fans have been searching desperately for their new savior since the departure of Rick Nash. This young Jackets squad has the skill to go far, but lacks definitive leadership. Is Johansen the man to take the reins? We certainly hope so. His numbers speak for themselves, but true leaders set the tone in every facet of the game. Everyone from upper management on down expects Johansen to be the complete player necessary to be called “Captain.”
Another Post Season?
At just over the halfway point, the Blue Jackets have a long way to go if they hope to be playing again in late May. Players like Johansen, Foligno and Bobrovsky need to prove they can produce for 82 games. The Eastern Conference is proving tough once again this season, and the road to the playoffs will not get any easier.
